Helping Out

December 2nd, 2007

I have blogged previously about the Walcot Community Shop at Sussex Square, East Walcot. On Saturday, I was able to help out there for a few hours in the morning. My activities included manning the till and collecting a cot and child guards from a local family who no longer had need for them. Also working on Saturday was Walcot Conservative Councillor, Peter Mallinson. Peter holds a Surgery there every Friday and is a regular on Saturday mornings as well.

If you have any old clothes, toys, books, ornaments or small items of furniture, then please take them to the Shop, which is open mornings from Monday to Saturday. The only rule is that the items must be in one piece! They will then be sold at extremely competitive prices!

The appalling weather of Saturday afternoon did not deter us from completing a leaflet drop in Westlea. This related to the forthcoming Green Action Day at the Westleaze Play Area. When we did our first Day at Weslteaze in August, we promised to return later in the year. I am glad to say that our handiwork on the slide area has remained largely intact, but the pond has seen a return of unwelcome rubbish. My thanks to Conservative activist Zehra Zaidi, from Gloucestershire, who joined us for the afternoon and who ploughed on with leafleting in the pouring rain. Zehra is a real live wire and will no doubt be making many return visits to Swindon in future.
We will be working at the Westleaze Play Area from 10am to 1pm on Saturday 8th December. All welcome - just bring some wellies and gloves.
