Letting in the Ladies
May 21st, 2008I was unable to be present last night, but as a supporter of previous attempts to make ladies Full Members of the Carlton Club, I was very pleased with the decision of members to change the rules to allow this. Bearing in mind the onset of equality legislation and the Club’s political position, adherence to the status quo was not really an option. In any event, ladies have enjoyed access to most of the Club’s facilities for some years now, paying only a fraction of the full membership fee. What will now happen is access to the rest of the Club and payment of full, equal fees by women members.
I know that several friends of mine who love the Club but who have not been permitted to apply will now do so! I look forward to supporting their applications.
